Fees

Our national peak bodies, the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. (AAPi) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommend a fee of $315 for a 50 minute session. We have set our fees under these recommendations to make them more affordable.

All fee prices listed are for a standard 50 minute session. Longer session times can be requested or may be recommended for certain treatment types or situations.

In-person & Telehealth

We provide both in-person and telehealth appointments. Telehealth means you have the option of having your appointment by video or phone. While most people choose to have appointments in-person at The Psychology Spot, we've found telehealth to be an effective and flexible way to continue psychology sessions when you can’t attend in-person. We use Zoom for telehealth appointments by video.

Fees for each session are due at the time of the appointment. We collect your card details so invoices can be automatically processed through our secure practice management system. We also process your Medicare rebate if you have provided us with a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from a GP that is dated on or before the appointment date.

We do not offer bulk billing services and the rebate only covers part of the fee.

Medicare can provide a maximum of 10 rebates per calendar year. The referral can be used with any psychologist you choose - even if it is different than the one your GP referred to originally.

Private Pay appointment

Full fees as above apply for private pay appointments, however a Medicare rebate isn’t available. Some private health insurers will provide a rebate with a receipt of payment. Please check with your health fund.

Policy for missed appointments, reschedules and cancellations

Medicare rebated and private pay appointments

Our policy for missed appointments, reschedules and cancellations is set in line with the recommendations for private practice from our psychology peak bodies (Australian Association of Psychologists inc, Australian Psychological Society). This policy is necessary to ensure that The Psychology Spot can continue to operate as a small business.

If you cannot attend, would like to reschedule, or need to cancel your appointment - you need to give at least 24 hours notice or 100% of the usual fee will be charged. If you give notice within 48 hours, only 50% of the usual fee will be charged. No rebates are paid by Medicare for missed appointments.

Please give us as much notice as possible, even if you late cancel an appointment. If we are able to fill the appointment at short notice with another person, we will not charge a late cancellation fee.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

In line with NDIS guidelines set by the Federal Government, a late cancellation is anything less than 2 clear business days’ notice. If you cancel late or do not attend an appointment, your NDIS Plan will be charged the session fee for that appointment.  For a support that is worth more than $1000 (e.g. psychology assessment), the NDIS guidelines state a late cancellation is anything less than 5 clear business days’ notice.

Couples counselling

$225

Rebates are not paid by Medicare for couples counselling. Some private health insurers will provide a rebate with a receipt of payment. Please check with your health fund.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Our psychologists provide Therapy Supports under the NDIS.  The fees are set and reviewed annually by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and come out of your NDIS Plan (Improved Daily Living). The NDIS therapy rate for psychology is $222.99 per session and there is no cost or gap fee for participants.

Workers Compensation

Psychological treatment through the Workers Compensation system is covered by the insurance company. You need approval from your insurer and a referral from your GP (Nominated Treating Doctor) before making an appointment.
